Burton Pre- exclusion Project
Burton has started its second year of Compact with a new group of 13 young people.
Steve Hawkes is continuing to lead the club and is supported Teresa Keates another Burton YFC team member. A teacher and the local youth and community worker also attend. The youth and community department have been very supportive of the project and recently helped secure funding for a residential. Other funding for the club has been coming in, resulting with the group's pictures in the local press. The group only has 3 girls which has presented some interesting challenges but the residential at a outdoor pursuits centre, has completely changed the dynamics. It enabled the whole group to gel and new respect level to be developed with the leaders. The group recently completed a First Aid challenge and the whole group was awarded the HeartStart Certificate. One key thing happening has been a visit to the IT company EDS who showed the group around their work and got them logged on. Next term the company is coming into the school to issue the group a challenge which is to design a website for the school. EDS will support them by lending a couple of laptops computers.
