National Changes

In order to cope with the growth we are experiencing at a local level, we are undertaking a review of the structures currently in place. We are looking at more central staffing for admin support and two regional posts one in London and the Home Counties and one in Birmingham.
We have also reviewed how we relate and manage local projects on the ground. We have introduced three main categories covering local projects:
BRANCHES; WU operating at a local level
§ Worth Unlimited for Waltham Forest (WU4WF)
§ Worth in the Black Country (W/BC)
PARTNERSHIPS; between us and other agencies
§ Praxsis in Greenwich
§ Burton Pre exclusion
LINKED PROJECTS; that projectuse our programmes.
§ South Staffs YFC
§ Manchester MI3

Releasing Money

Praxis, the partnership established to support work in Greenwich, has been granted 3 year's funding from the Neighbourhood Support Fund NSF (Community Development). £80,000 has been granted over three years, mainly to support a worker, Sarah Hurl, and to run a World Worth Living In programme each year. An initial club has been established and they are about to undertake their final residential. The group have planned to do The Three Peaks Challenge and have been training by running up and down the stairs of local tower blocks. Sarah and the other workers have many issues to face with the young people but the level of relationship built up has been great. We hope to get a video snippet from the group posted on the website once we have got to grips with the technology. Urban Action Manchester also received NSF (National Youth Agency) money for three years which included WWLI. It has been great to see so much support generated at a local level, and to serve these people working in the jungle of youth culture. It has been a great few months for us and the strategy of local projects partnering with us. Using the World Worth Living In programme as the key element of their work is really working both in terms of helping them get more in depth with young people and accessing funding. Through the partnering strategy local projects have been able to secure nearly £200,000. The figure raised locally is nearly 20 times what has come to the central organisation. We are delighted at this and want to keep things small centrally to get as much happening on the ground as possible. Whilst we have been key in facilitating this, core funding for us nationally is still needed until we are more established. If you are interested in supporting our work, please download our new leaflet on giving to Worth Unlimited which incorporates the changes made by the government that came into effect 6th April enabling us to claim tax back if you are a tax payer, thus increasing your giving without you paying more.

Police Committee asks for our support

Worth In The Black Country has been asked by the local Police Liaison Committee to expand the Lookout project in Pensnett to other areas. It is hoped to start another project near Stourbridge. Workers live in the community in houses provided by the Local Authority and undertake relational youthwork with local young people. In Pensnett there has been a significant drop in crime and attendance of organised youth activities has risen by 200%.

Recognised Training

Worth is due to run the Urban/relational track for YFC's new trainee youth worker programme called "The Academy" starting this September. The programme will consist of modules in "Urban Theology and Mission" and "Working with young people". It will also include the Centre for Youthwork foundation programme validated by Brunel University.
